In the past some years I have struggled very hard to understand 'realism.' Given that it was the popular, ruling, rational narrative - I have tried to make amends with it. For what I found boring, stale and dry in it I have tried to understand painstakingly the 'realpolitik' of it. Earlier, on a similar quest, I undertook the investigative study of Linguistics, to decipher a scientific approach in the realms of language and literature -- to fight my naturally and instinctually poetic nature, to become a better person or strive towards a better ideal of being.
Once, TFH and I were climbing up one of the more difficult hills of Oneonta (A city known for its hills, even called 'city of the hills') and stopped in the middle for a break. A guy coming downhill asked us casually "Where are you going?" To which TFH had replied: "We are going all the way."
Lastly, I'd like to say that after 4 or 5 attempts at Ulysses, I have undertaken the task once again, for one day I must get 'drunk like an Irishman' over its content and indeed, go 'all the way.' haha Long live the spirit of Terry.
